About

Who is Bethany Lankin?

I'm a user experience architect currently looking for a chance to help people enjoy interacting with technology by creating user centered, visual interfaces.

I have worked as a UX team lead, senior user experience architect, interaction designer, and usability researcher since 1993 for B2B and B2C industries such as Sears, Ricoh, CNA, Credit Suisse, and ABN AMRO Bank. I have created and maintained UX/UI pattern libraries, wireframe guidelines, and web accessibility guidelines and standards for a number of corporations. I also have experience working in an Agile environment.

I received a B.F.A. in visual design from Northern Illinois University where I become an articulate visual designer. Early in my career, many designers like myself were encouraged to make clients' emerging web and application offerings more visually attractive, often at the expense of their usability.

Unsatisfied with this attitude, the needlessly complex, unintuitive, and frustrating technology I was encountering more and more frequently, and driven by the belief that beauty and usability can exist in the same space, I entered the user experience field. Later, I would attend classes given by Human Factors International and become a Certified Usability Analyst.

In my spare time, I have been creating a podcast about Chicago's art, architecture, and history called After the Prairie.
